Top tips for A-level and IB students

25 March 2026

As exam season approaches, here’s what A-level and IB students should be focusing on now. Most university offers are in, conditional places are secured – and this is the final stretch before those offers become reality or slip away.

This is not the time to coast

Students holding conditional offers face a straightforward equation: meet the grades, secure the place. Miss by even a single grade, and universities are under no obligation to accept them. While some institutions show flexibility for students who narrowly miss their conditions, research shows that applicants who underperform their predicted grades risk losing their university place if they miss the conditions of their offer. Recent figures show that nearly 50% of UK students were predicted AAA and above in 2024, yet only 26% actually achieved these grades – highlighting the importance of thorough exam preparation rather than relying on predictions alone.

The difference between a conditional offer and confirmed admission is entirely within students’ control. The finish line is in sight, but complacency at this stage can undo months of hard work and jeopardise carefully laid university plans.

Making the most of Easter

Revision should be well underway now, with the Easter holidays offering concentrated time for focused study. Consistent daily study is more effective than last-minute cramming. A balanced schedule that maintains momentum – keeping study, sleep and exercise on track – ensures students return for their final term feeling ready and prepared.

Targeted revision strategies

Self-testing enhances information recall, while spacing – revisiting material at intervals – sets a steady revision rhythm. Working little and often allows time to identify and address gaps whilst avoiding burnout. Different students respond to different techniques, whether flashcards, note-taking, reading aloud, or a combination of approaches.

Expert support when it matters most

Our targeted tuition is led by academic experts with deep knowledge of both A-level and IB requirements. Students are carefully paired with tutors who have experience in their specific subjects and exam boards, developing the deep subject knowledge and critical thinking skills that exams demand.

We focus on techniques to maximise marks by aligning answers precisely with mark schemes – understanding exactly what examiners are looking for and how to deliver it. We also cover time management skills and strategies to calm nerves. Students sit practice papers in timed, invigilated conditions, recreating the exam experience. Tutors guide them through past papers and mark schemes, helping them understand feedback, identify common mistakes and apply lessons to future practice. Every session directly strengthens exam readiness.

Supporting performance

Alongside revision, maintaining a healthy routine is essential. Regular sleep patterns, hydration and balanced nutrition improve memory and concentration. Daily exercise reduces stress, while mindfulness techniques and regular screen breaks enhance focus.

The final word

Conditional offers represent opportunity – but only if students meet the conditions. The weeks ahead require focus, discipline and consistent effort. For students who need targeted support to secure their university place, time is running short.
