School entrance group courses.
Creating a collaborative space for effective learning
11+ courses

Harnessing the power of peer-to-peer learning, our targeted school entrance exam courses are the perfect complement to one-to-one tuition. Each course is designed and tailored in-house by our specialist consultants, to reflect up-to-the-minute changes in entrance requirements. The result is a dynamic, effective and fun learning experience that will inspire confidence and perfect exam techniques.

Entry to the country’s top schools is becoming more competitive every year, and in the face of growing over-subscription, students will need to go far beyond their existing syllabus in order to succeed. Our 11+ courses are delivered by our senior leadership team, and we have a long track record in preparing students successfully for entry to some of the country’s finest schools, including St Paul’s, Westminster, Godolphin and Latymer, Latymer Upper, King’s College Wimbledon, Winchester, Marlborough and Wellington College, to name but a few.

What do our courses cover?

Each course is informed by the independent school exam process, including the ISEB pre-test for 11+ and 13+ entry. Content is carefully crafted for each session, and we look at ISEB written and multiple-choice comprehensions, creative writing, grammar and vocabulary, maths and reasoning skills.

Comprehension, creative writing and grammar

Each child receives their own booklet to work through, in a small, tutor-led group. We discuss each comprehension task as we go, highlighting opportunities to improve and providing the timely, personalised feedback that isn’t often possible in a school environment. We look at written and multiple-choice comprehension, practice strategies, structure and planning for effective creative writing, as well as examine the nuts and bolts of grammar, vocabulary and syntax.

We understand that every child learns at their own pace, in their own way, and our course content is carefully designed to reflect this. Student engagement, feedback and discussion is a critical part of the course, and something we encourage across every discipline. This not only reinforces learning, but also creates an enjoyable environment that builds confidence.

Verbal and non-verbal reasoning

When it comes to reasoning, familiarity is key. We spend plenty of time looking at questions and practicing various reasoning techniques. The team covers a broad range of CAT questions, and wider reasoning approaches to prepare children sitting for the 11+ London Consortium, ISEB exams, and those set by GL Assessment and CEM.

Maths

In our maths sessions, we focus on technique, accuracy and speed. We look at core written and multiple-choice content across fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, probability, algebra, geometry, statistics, measurement and word problems. We instill the importance of reading the question properly, and how to avoid silly mistakes.

Interview preparation

Our expert interviewers prepare children for this vital step in the application process. This is likely to be the first time your child has encountered a formal interview, so we focus on boosting confidence and putting them at ease. Presentation skills, good manners and first impressions are all part of the course – from teaching children how to shake hands properly, to tips on staying calm under pressure.

We’ll practice many different questions together, informed by the latest approaches employed by key target schools. And we’ll help children learn to think on their feet – answering unexpected questions fluently and thoughtfully. This could be how to interpret art, a mental maths challenge or a question on poetry or literature.

Complementing our one-to-one support, we also provide interview practice in a group setting. This has proven a great way to build self-confidence, as children encourage each other and work together to improve. Where possible, we’ll bring in a new interviewer so children get used to meeting unfamiliar people. This is all wrapped up with plenty of feedback and tips to continue practicing at home.
